The hill of Fiesole
Tour of Fiesole, ancient Etruscan town, rich with history and art on the top of the hills overlooking the Arno river and renowned for its beautiful Cathedral , the Roman anfitheatre and the Villa where Lorenzo the Magnificent used to meet all the greatest Renaissance artists .
The Cathedral of San Romolo
The itinerary starts in the main square where we visit the Cathedral of San Romolo, built in the X° century, with a beautiful romanesque interior and works of Neri di Bicci, Piero Perugino, Giovanni della Robbia, as well as the tomb of the Saint.
The Roman Anfitheatre of Fiesole
The tours continues with the visit of the archeological site of Fiesole, the largest and most important near Florence, where you see the ancient Roman Anfitheatre, still used today for concerts, ballets and operas, the Roman thermal baths and an etruscan temple.
The Church of Santa Maria Primerana
The Church of Santa Maria Primerana was built in the first centuries of Christianism to keep and worship a very old image of the Virgin Mary. Inside there are important frescoes and altar pieces.
San Francesco's Hill
From the square we climb to the top of San Francesco's hill to reach the Monastery of the Franciscan monks built in 1339, in the place of the ancient Etruscan Acropolis of Fiesole. Here lives the community of friars who in 1875 founded the Ethnological Museum of Missionaries which houses important works of etruscan, roman, egyptian and chinese origins.
From the hilltop you will then enjoy one of the most stunning views of Florence.
